When BOSS compact pedals were first manufactured the company used a metal screw to tighten the lid to the battery compartment. BOSS fanatics call this a "Silver screw". Sometimes it's also called a "Coin screw". This is because the bottom label told you to "Use a coin" to unscrew. When the silver screw was replaced by a black metal screw with plastic coating you were advised to "Unscrew using your fingers".
Even though both screws came in slightly different shapes it's not of any importance to collectors. It's either silver screw or black screw. Silver screw (or simply SS) pedals usely have a higher price tag in the used/vintage market because of the rarity and age.
